UPDATE: Application is alive and unfortunately you can’t get both cards! More info here.
I am personally going to wait for the upgrade offer here.
Edit: Reader Miles says:
In addition to the 6x and 2x categories, the annual certificate on the new Marriott Plus card is good for stays of up to 35,000 points – versus 25,000 points on the current card.
I heard on another blog, a Chase rep said you could not hold both cards. But I don’t remember where that [was].
If this is the case then I would upgrade the existing MLA non plus Marriott card to another Ritz if they would allow that. Then applying for the Marriott Reawards Plus card. Not sure if you can hold on to two ritz cards, but I can be your datapoint! More discussion can be found here regarding multiple Marriott products.
The application site is up for the New Marriott Rewards Plus Card and will start taking applications in 2 days! For those that are 0/24 churn virgins, you may be able to double dip with the existing original Marriott Product with a 75,000 bonus by using the links: here and here. Then hopefully in two days get this new card with another 100,000 point bonus. From TPG:
Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card, which will be available beginning May 3, 2018, and carry a $95 annual fee. In addition to a 100,000-point new cardmember sign-up offer — after spending $5,000 in the first 90 days
Hopefully there will be no restriction in having multiple versions of the same product like they have done with Sapphire and Freedom. My understanding is you can still have multiple United Products, and I hope the Marriott will be no different. Also I hope the don’t consider the Plus the same product as the old product and you can get both bonuses for a total of 175,000 as well as two free annual nights worth 35,000 points each! Please use the link and let me know how it goes:
I would not plan on upgrading this one to the plus until an offer is made to upgrade the existing product. The difference of the plus (Besides being $10 more expensive) is 6x Marriott points instead of 5x, 2x on everything instead of just travel. Also the plus has a 35k free night insted of a 25k free night. The 15 night status credits will be nice, but I hope that we still get status from our AmEx Platinum cards. Not sure if two cards means 30 nights a year, but they discuss it here!
For those that need proof on Chase MLA waivers, I got my annual fee waived for my $450 annual fee Ritz-Carlton card per the MLA on 21 April 2018:
Thank You Chase! This is all speculation on my part since I cannot apply for any of these products myself since I am well beyond 5/24! Please report back if you end up being able to have bot the plus and non-plus Marriott products!
