Mil Rate + $100 Hotel Credit = Ritz Chicago at $87 a night

The points guy took a good look of hotels that are relatively cheap that qualify for the $100 hotel credit from AmEx fine hotels and resorts. Since I am on a Ritz kick, I decided to do the same with the Government & Military Discount rate at the Ritz Carlton Hotels in USA and Canada:

State Address Name Gov’t Rate
AZ 15000 North Secret Springs Drive  Marana, AZ 85658 USA Dove Mountian $159.00
CO 0130 Daybreak Ridge, P.O. Box 9190  Avon, CO 81620 USA bachelor-gulch $130.00

PA 10 Avenue of the Arts  Philadelphia, PA 19102 USA Philadelphia $151.00
VA 1250 South Hayes Street  Arlington, VA 22202 USA Pentagon City $166.00
VA 1700 Tysons Boulevard  McLean, VA 22102 USA Tysons Corner $182.00
DC 1150 22nd Street, N.W.  Washington, DC 20037 USA Washington DC $268.00

You can see sometimes the Gov’t rate may be more expensive and might be cheaper not applying any special rate.  According to the new terms of the Ritz Carlton Chase Card for any two night booking we get a $100 credit for hotel spend. There is no stipulation on what rate the hotel is booked under. Now an club level upgrade cannot be used with these special rates, but $100 would easily pay for breakfast for two mornings. In my most recent booking at the Ritz ATL, I forgone the government rate to book the standard rate to get the club level. I hope its worth it, otherwise I will take the credit next time with the government rate.

Now look at Chicago, you could get an off peak room for $137 a night. That means for two nights you spend the equivalent of $87 a night for two nights. Which is cheaper than the Holiday Inn.

Thanks again to TPG in outlining the new Ritz card.
