Fly Southwest Airlines Free with Chase Ink + Sapphire

Chase-Ultimate-Rewards southwest_airlines_logo_detail

If you moved from Okinawa to Florida last week this deal is for you! Pensacola is a Southwest Airline City and right now for $4k spend you get 40k Ultimate Reward points on Chase Sapphire Preferred and 50K for $5k spend on Chase Ink Business Plus.

So what does 90,000 UR points get you? Well for one Southwest airlines is a transfer partner for UR points. You get a 1:1 ratio for UR points to Southwest Rapid Rewards Points.

When you transfer the points its almost instantaneous! The best part is the redemption is related directly with the ticket price rather than segments or distance. For example a round trip flight from Pensacola to LAX will be 17,634 RR points and $11.20.

For those in Chicago you can fly one way from MDW to DEN for 2273 RR points one way.

So not bad for spending points, but how do you earn points rapidly? Beside the two intro offers you have to remember that Chase does not waive annual fees for military unless some how you got the card before you joined. So if you had to pay the annual fee I would stick with Chase Ink Plus and put all of you Telecom and internet on the card earning 5x points per dollar. in this example my Japanese cellphone bill, fiber optic line, and internet earn plenty of points each month:

$232.49 for 3 iPhones = 1162.45 UR Points, $7.92 for iPad internet = 39.6 UR, $31.69 for Fiber Optic Line = 158.45 UR, $16.86 for Internet = 84.3 UR makes 1444.8 UR points per month. In addition to my $300 on tolls I put on my Chase Sapphire worth 400 UR points I end up with a steady 2k UR points per month. Additionally all my Air BnB, taxi, tolls and dining earns 2x points on Sapphire.

So bottom line if you fly Southwest, use the $200 travel credit from AmEx Platinum towards southwest, and move on over to Chase to earn some real points.
